Fields of Expertise

Dr. Mesut Yavuz's expertise is widespread. He has published his scholarly work in journals such as Computers and Industrial Engineering, Computers and Operations Research, International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Production Research, Journal of Mathematical Modeling and Algorithms, Manufacturing and Service Operations Management, and Military Operations Research. His primary research areas are production and operations management, applied optimization, and operations research in sports. Dr. Yavuz will mainly be teaching courses in statistics, quantitative analysis and supply chain management.


Professional Highlights

Before joining the Byrd School of Business, Dr. Mesut Yavuz taught at University of Florida - Research and Engineering Education Facility. His prior experience also includes consulting, training and systems analysis in various industries. He enjoys teaching, and is known for maintaining students' active participation in his classes.

Scholarship and Service:
Dr. Mesut Yavuz's primary research area is just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing systems. Planning and scheduling of JIT manufacturing systems require modeling and solving difficult optimization problems. Dr. Yavuz has addressed a few such problems and developed algorithms to solve them. Recently, he worked on scheduling problems arising in military operations. His work was sponsored by Air Force Research Laboratory. He also has an interest in applying operations research techniques to professional sports, especially soccer and American football. In all these areas, Dr. Yavuz has published his research in peer-reviewed, respected journals.

Dr. Mesut Yavuz was born in Istanbul, Turkey. He speaks Turkish and Serbian as native languages. In his spare time Dr. Yavuz enjoys playing and watching soccer.
