Professional Highlights

  • Glenn Caluda is a native of New Orleans. From 1970-1973, he served as guitarist and bassist with the Soldiers’ Chorus of the United States Army Field Band of Washington, DC. After military service, he taught guitar at the Community College of Baltimore. In 1975, he became Shenandoah’s first full-time guitar teacher, where he established the classical guitar program.
  • He and his wife Elizabeth (a member of Shenandoah’s piano faculty) can often be found performing as a duo specializing in the performance of music composed or arranged for guitar and piano. Their repertoire spans over 200 years of music, from the baroque to the twentieth century, including pieces composed especially for them and often featuring performance on period instruments.
  • He studied with the renowned guitar pedagogue Aaron Shearer as well as other fine teachers and players. He has given classes and clinics at various state and national music educators’ conventions. His publications include journal articles, compositions for solo guitar, arrangements for guitar ensemble, and music for children’s choir. Glenn Caluda is also an active performer as a soloist and in various ensembles.
