Professional Highlights

  • Mr. Langan frequently performs principal Bass-Baritone roles near his home in the Washington DC area with The Washington National Opera, Baltimore Opera Company and Washington Concert Opera. He was recently seen at The Baltimore Opera Company as Monterone in Rigoletto, Sonora in La Fanciulla del West and Warden George Benton in Dead Man Walking. He has bowed in seven productions at The Kennedy Center with The Washington National Opera and sung in five productions with The Summer Opera Theater Company. His roles there include Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Le Comte Des Grieux in Massenet's Manon. He has also recently appeared at the new Music Center at Strathmore with the National Philharmonic Orchestra as Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte and Commendatore in Don Giovanni. He will return there in 2007 as Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. This sought after American bass-baritone has enjoyed success and glittering reviews with many of the major opera companies of North America and Europe appearing in such roles as Mephistopheles (cited in Opera News as “a sparkling black diamond”) in Faust, Colline in La Boheme, Seneca in L’incoronazione di Poppea, Don Alfonso in Cosi fan Tutte, Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor. Numbered among these companies are Houston Grand Opera, where he sang Don Alfonso, Colline, and the King in Aida, the latter opposite Plaçido Domingo in a nationally telecast production on PBS. He has also appeared in principal roles with San Francisco Opera, New York City Opera, Florida Grand Opera, The Dallas Opera, New Orleans Opera, Anchorage Opera, Sarasota Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Opera Colorado, and Atlanta Opera (where he appeared as the Speaker in Die Zauberflöte, Fernando in Fidelio in addition to two other appearances). The Florentine Opera and Skylight Opera companies of Milwaukee have all invited Mr. Langan to perform multiple times. As previously mentioned Mr. Langan frequently performs in Europe where he first established himself at the Osnabrücker Oper in Osnabrück, Germany. Mr. Langan has sung such leading roles as Sarastro, Count Walter in Luisa Miller, Dikoy in Katya Kabanova in Osnabruck, Lübeck, Maastricht as well as other major German and Dutch cities. Mr. Langan holds a Masters degree in Music from the famed Indiana University School of Music where he studied voice with the great Wagnerian Soprano Margaret Harshaw. Future engagements include a return to Washington Concert Opera at Sir Gualtiero Valton in I Puritani and a debut with Greensboro Opera as Monterone in Rigoletto. Mr. Langan has served on the faculty of Shenandoah Conservatory since 2001. He has also served on the voice faculties of Indiana University, Westminster Choir College and is currently on the voice faculty at George Washington University.
